Planned and built with thoughtful consideration, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Dennet Oregon, a double amputee, will be able to use his wheelchair comfortably in his new specially-adapted smart home.
It is finally time for wounded veteran U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Dennet Oregon, his wife Katherine (Kat) and their children to move into their new Murietta, California home from the Gary Sinise Foundation. The keys to this specially adapted smart home were presented to the Oregon family at a home dedication ceremony.
Joe Miranda, director of product management and chair of JELD-WEN's Veterans' Network Employee Resource Group (ERG), attended the ceremony. “As a veteran myself, this is one of the most emotional and humbling events I have ever been a part of,” said Joe. “It was an honor and privilege to represent JELD-WEN and our Veterans' Network ERG in this selfless act of giving."
This home, featuring Siteline® windows from our Rantoul, Illinois facility and LaCantina® patio doors from our Oceanside, California facility, is the first to be fitted with windows and doors donated from JELD-WEN to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
Dennet, a double amputee, will be able to comfortably use his wheelchair in the brand-new home. “I haven’t been able to use the master bathroom where we’ve lived because I haven’t been able to squeeze [the wheelchair] in,” shared Dennet, “It’s going to be nice to actually use a bathroom close to where I sleep.”
