Powering the future: Solar panel system brings sustainable power to JELD-WEN

As JELD-WEN adopts environmental practices in the workplace, our DANA facility in Spital, Austria, installed a solar PV panel system to produce electricity used at the site, powering the next generation of JELD-WEN manufacturing.

In September 2024, JELD-WEN's DANA facility in Spital, Austria installed a solar PV panel system which will both cut costs from rising electricity prices in Central Europe and reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from purchased electricity.

“With this measure we contribute to the necessary expansion of renewable energy and make an important contribution to climate protection,” said Electrician Kurt Buchegger, solar panel project manager.

The system will produce approximately 466,000 kWh of electricity per year and will cover a portion of the facility’s consumption. The remainder of the facility’s electricity will continue to be purchased from renewable sources.

In addition to purchasing, and now generating, renewable energy, the Spital facility also maintains the best-in-class ISO 50001 energy management certification.

Our Spital facility exemplifies JELD-WEN's commitment to environmental best practices in manufacturing, as 100% of the plant's energy is either generated or purchased from renewable sources.

The facility’s solar panel project represents a step toward a greener future -- "Our path to Net Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions and a sustainable future is dependent on energy efficiency and our investment in renewable energy," said Global ESG Director Carolyn Payne.

By making our workplaces more sustainable, JELD-WEN is advancing our sustainability goals, contributing to a cleaner world for all.
